How to identify
- Rusty tunnels just under the carrot skin

- Adults are small dark flies — hard to spot

Control methods
- Floating row cover from sowing to harvest.
- Delay sowing until after the first spring flight in problem areas (local timing varies).
- Harvest promptly; do not leave carrots in the ground late if flies are active.
