How to identify
- Gray-brown adults that look flat and shield-like
- Brick-red nymphs in clusters
- Bronze egg masses on leaf undersides
Damage: Wilting leaves, yellow spots, and vine collapse under heavy pressure.
Control methods
- Crush egg masses every few days early in the season.
- Trap adults under boards overnight and dispose of them in the morning.
- Remove vines promptly after harvest; do not leave squash debris over winter.
- Row cover until flowering, then lift for pollination.
