How to identify
- Clouds of white insects when leaves are disturbed
- Sticky honeydew on leaves
- Nymphs look like flat scales on leaf undersides
Damage: Yellowing, weakened plants, sooty mold; virus risk in some crops.
Control methods
- Yellow sticky traps for monitoring and some adult catch.
- Remove heavily infested lower leaves.
- Avoid broad insecticides that wipe out Encarsia and other parasitoids.
