How to identify
- Tan moth with wavy wing markings (adult stage)
- Larvae tunnel in stalks; broken tassels or entry holes
- Frass and tunnels in ears later in the season
Damage: Stalk breakage, ear damage, and secondary rot.
Control methods
- Plant resistant or early sweet-corn varieties when available.
- Shred and compost stalks after harvest — borers overwinter in debris.
- Scout for egg masses on leaf undersides in early summer.
